What THEY Want From You.

I don’t like harsh words. I’m writing this post because of a conversation my wife and I had recently about the pharmaceutical industry. Bill Maher has posted about this. Just do a search on Youtube for “Bill Maher Pharma Rant” and you’ll see what I mean.

Recently my wife and I were talking about a conversation we’d heard about. It was from an oncologist who said that after 75 years of life, he didn’t want any life saving attempts made in case of medical crisis. He said that we’ve done such a good job extending life, but not a particularly good one in decreasing morbidity, that is, life pretty much sucks after 75.

I can’t say I disagree with that. Unfortunately, what I think he’s missing is that he thinks people have to live in our current healthcare system. Our current healthcare system is based on disease. It says that you are broken. Your genetics are flawed, and there are diseases just lying in wait for the right time to spring upon you, and you need to take a bunch of tests and a lot of drugs to keep those diseases at bay. Or, you can cut out those parts of your body before they become diseases. The genetics don’t lie, right?

You are certainly going to die of something. Most people have bought into this theory of health, and spend most of their time living life, taking drugs, combating disease and extending the quantity of their lives without doing anything to affect the quality of their lives. How much time do you spend in a pharmacy?

I would assert that most people don’t like taking drugs. Just ask yourself if you do. I hate taking them. I don’t like feeling like I need to. I was asthmatic from the time I was five years old until my last inhaler blast at 32. Hated taking it every time. It made me feel like I was broken, like there was something wrong with me. I used to joke with my friends that I never would have survived in ancient times because I couldn’t run away from a predator or catch prey because I’d have an asthma attack and die.

The truth is, that’s not the whole story.

You see, I beat asthma by getting off my medications and looking at my lifestyle. I cut out dairy, I started meditating, I got serious about exercise, I became regular with chiropractic care, then I cut out the grains, and at 32, I puffed on my last inhaler. My genetics may have predisposed me to asthma, but the genes don’t express unless given the right opportunity, that is, the environment created by my lifestyle.

If you are like me, and hate thinking that your body is broken, know that it ISN’T! Your body is amazing, and totally has the power to heal, grow, evolve, and become better than you ever thought possible. It’s about eating the right way, moving the right way, and making sure that the inborn brilliance of you has every opportunity to shine brightly.

That last part is where chiropractic comes in. Because even if you eat right and move right, and take the right supplements, and do everything else right, if you aren’t clearly connected to that inborn wisdom, you still CANNOT be optimally healthy.

The pharmaceutical companies don’t want you to know this. They want you to think you are broken, and that you need their drugs to live happy, healthy lives. For most people, it’s a lie, and it’s how you live a life filled with morbidity and chronic disease, rather than a vibrant, happy, and healthy life.

You are not broken. You’re amazing. And you have every chance to be healthy.
